I started watching Mike & Molly last year and have been truly fascinated by the characters. The early seasons of Mike & Molly are the most enduring. Molly is a teacher who gets little support from her mother and sister. Mike has a mother that smothers him with love and food. Both have different backgrounds but the same need to be love.

The first episode introduces Mike and Molly. Both are struggling with weight issues and feeling uncomfortable about their body. People around them try to help them in their own unique way but their intentions can lead more anxiety. Molly meets Mike and is instantly taken by his charm and humorous take on life.

The episode “Mike’s Not Ready” is really about accepting one’s self as in accepting others. Sexuality is tackle in a very sensitive way. Mike loves Molly but fears he is not physically fit enough to be desirable. Molly thinks he does not love her and fears she is not attractive to him. At the end of the show, he tells her his doubts about himself. She reminds him she thinks about herself in the same way!

I think the most funny but also vey poignant episode is “Mike Snores” where Mike introduces Molly to his Sleep Apnea machine. Reminds me of Silence of the Lambs! Molly is a little taken aback by it but comes to accept it. I like the message it sends by showing that true love is not frighten off by a person’s condition.

The episodes also give us insights to Mike and Molly’s friends and family. They help us to understand Mike and Molly but how the people in their life interact with them.  We see the love in everyone, even though they may show it a little strangely.

As a disabled person, I find this show very enduring. Dealing with issues that others do not understand and sometimes having to deal with comments that sound inappropriate or crude. However, they mean well. I hope one day they will create a show like Mike & Molly about disabled characters falling in love and may have a family!:)
