If I should write a fable, it would be something like this: There lived a littlest kitten. All the other kittens didn’t care about him. They thought he would never amount to much since he was so small. “You’re never big like us,” they taunted him. He was hurt that they said things like that and left him out of the group. But he always remained kind to them.

The kittens loved chasing the rats around the house. It was fun and for exercise. “It’s s so much fun to chase our food! We’re never going to get fat!” said the leader of the kittens. Every day they would see a rat and then chase it into the house. Although the kittens’ owners did not find it amusing, they set mouse traps for the rats. This upset the kittens at first but then they realized how good they had it.

So every day there was a rat for them. In time, they just expected it and didn’t chase anymore which means they got really, really FAT! But since they were not chasing anymore, the rats were not coming inside the house. The owners put the mouse traps away and the kittens were very sad.

“I wished we could play like we used to!” cried all of them. The littlest kitten heard this and felt sorry for them. “I must do something to cheer them up!” he thought. So the next day he went for a walk outside. Suddenly, he saw a rat. He chased the rat to a backyard where its family lived. He knew that he had to wait to catch one. So he waited, and waited and waited. It was almost dark before he saw one. The minute he saw it, he pounced! It happened so fast that the rat didn’t know what to do.

The littlest kitten took the rat home to his family. The kittens were surprised to see him. Although they had no idea he left anyway. He said, “Come outside, I want to show you something.” They went out and saw a rat! “Where did you find one?” the leader of the cat family said. “I had to walk across town,” the smallest kitten said. The leader was touched and said, “We have been very small and you have been very BIG! We are sorry for thinking little of you.” The smallest kitten smiled and said, “Now you know how I felt.”

This fable is meant to show children how to be kind, even to those who seem to ignore you or make you feel insignificant. I guess the moral lesson here is to “Love your enemies.” You never know how kindness can break the ice!
