My Time is Different Than Yours
"My time is Different than Yours"
Theresa McMillan
I live on a different time table. I was born with a time clock that runs slower than other human clocks. It’s not easy at times trying to understand this world’s time. I struggle to keep up with the immortal ticking sound but to no avail.
When everyone says, “Hurry Up!” I want to say, “Slow down! I can’t keep up!”
Why are they so much in a hurry anyway? Don’t they understand that they will all be going to the same place?
I don’t like humans thinking of their time. They value time to do this and do that, but they don’t take in time. They don’t understand time is far more for being here than getting there.
Even though I’m human too, I respect time and cherish it. I see things introspective rather than on a schedule of events. Time teaches me to examine people and to learn about them. I want to care more about people’s heart beats than their notions of time.
This is not to say that I don’t struggle with time. Every now and then when I hear someone has achieved a goal or starts a career at a young age, it reminds me how long it is taking me to complete my tasks at hand.
“Why is it taking me so long?” I despairingly say. But then I tell myself, “My time is different than others.” What if I had accomplished great things while I was younger? Would I take them for granted or be gracious for them? Achieving things at a young age is admirable but can never replace the great teacher called time.
Time is my ultimate teacher. It teaches me patience and how precious people and projects are. When I take time to analyze, digest, and evaluate them, I learn more and see deeper than someone who is just meeting a deadline.
My time is different than yours. I will complete my dreams and goals at a later date. But the greatest accomplishment I shall be proud of is that I mastered time.
